pcrc, nycn collaborates on rising crime rate among youths.
The rising rate of criminality involving fraudulent and ritual practices among some youth of Ogun State has become more worrisome to the leaderships of the State Chapters' of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN). The unpleasant development necessitated a meeting on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, between the leadership of the Organizations at the PCRC State Secretariat to discuss the recent insecurity trend involving the youth of the society and possible way out.
At the meeting, the PCRC State Chairman, Ven. (Dr.) Samson Kunle Poopola lamented the rising rate of crime among the youth as he condemned the mannerism at which even teenagers are now involved in fraudulent lifestyles and acts of ritual. He recommended the need for a periodical workshop and continued sensitization to educate the younger ones to suppress impending crises that continue to threaten the future of the country.
In his response, the Youth Chairman of Ogun State, Com. Abdul-Jabar Ayelaagbe appreciated the leadership of the PCRC for numerous interventions in maintaining sanity in society. He said the State Youth leadership had also put machinery in motion for a Youth Security summit and further engagements in the community to arrest the situation. He expressed confidence for more fruitful collaborations, particularly with the current leadership under the watch of Ven. Samson Poopola and the continued mentorship of the PCRC National Vice—President (Southwest), Asiwaju Ibrahim Olaniyan.
Ayelaagbe briefed the Stakeholders present at the meeting of the ongoing plan, in line with the PCRC's call for sensitization, to sanitize the society. A consensus was further reached by the Stakeholders present at the meeting as a Committee was inaugurated to facilitate a joint action on community engagement and individual participation.
