The youth leadership of Ogun State has cautioned political jobbers and detractors from dragging the dignity of the youth constituency to the mud.

This warning was obtained from a press release issued by the state’s chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and made available to pressmen at Ogun Youth House, MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, on May 4, 2022. The official statement, jointly signed by the State Chairman and Secretary of the Youth Council, condemned the sponsored allegation on Governor Dapo Abiodun by a faceless youth group tagged Coalition of Ogun State Students and Youths (COSSY), which claimed to have spoken on behalf of the youths.

The Youth Council Chairman, Com. Abdul-Jabar Ayelaagbe, who expressed dismay at the politics of bitterness, which has began to play out ahead of the 2023 elections, urged politicians to desist from campaign of calumny particularly where it bothers on the hard earned reputation of another person or group.

“The youth leadership of Ogun State wishes to reiterate, irrefutably and irrevocably, that the Youth Council, as provided in the National Youth Policy, remains the authoritative mouthpiece of the youths. 

“The Youth Council in its coordinating position oversees the affairs of well—recognized youth groups across the State, and COSSY is never known as any formation of youths or as an existing group related to youth affairs in Ogun State.

“In view of the above, the youth leadership hereby warns any unfounded or politically motivated assemblage of unguided youths to steer clear from parading itself as representative or voice of the youths in Ogun State.

“It is pertinent to state that the youth leadership remains in constant engagement with the State Government and will neither engage in any act of mischief nor undermine the dignity of the youth constituency,” the statement reads in part.

The Youth Council further appealed to the general public to remain politically conscious of miscreants who create instabilities and leverage on same to sustain their daily meals as any clarification bothering on youth activities in Ogun State were said to be obtainable at Ogun Youth House, MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta or via info@nycnogun.ng.
