The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Obafemi Owode Local Government Branch, will on Friday 19th of June, 2020, hold an open air sensitization against sexual harassment and other forms of gender-based violence.

In a brief addressed to the state leadership of the Youth Council by the Youth Leader of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Com. Oluwemimo Benjamin, the event tagged ‘A DAY WALK FOR A RAPE FREE SOCIETY’ will kick-off at the Local Government Secretariat at exactly 9am.

Benjamin who maintained the need for this campaign amidst the covid-19 pandemic expressed his displeasure at the alarming rate of rape across the nation. “We cannot fold our arms and look onward. The youths of Obafemi Owode are law-abiding citizens who will not only abstain from societal ills, but will also be a voice to all that concerns the youth constituency.

“We are selective with the participation to comply with the government’s guideline on social gathering, and social distancing. We appeal for every authority to promote a message on the evils of rape. One at a time, we will collectively win this war.

“We are taking this action as a directive of our state leadership on the request for every youth to speak up against rape. We are committed to be at the frontline of every sane advocacy,” Benjamin said.
