odeda youths celebrate international youth day with leadership and sensitization talks

The Youths of Odeda on Wednesday, August 12, celebrated the 2020 International Youth Day.
The programme coordinated by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Odeda Local Government Branch, featured lectures on ‘Building the Youth Against Social Vices using Rape as a Case Study,’ and another on ‘The Pains and Gains of Becoming a Leader.’
In his opening address, the Coordinator of Odeda Branch of the Youth Council, Com. Tajudeen Amuda, stated two of the factors hindering majority of Youths from the path of attaining or sustaining global recognition as immoral lifestyle and poor disposition to selfless service. According to Amuda, “The youth leadership of Odeda Local Government is concerned about the future of our youths. And it is on this note that we are taking preventive actions to continue build youth's with sound moral values.”
In a lecture delivered by CSP Ajayi Williams, the Divisional Police Officer for Odeda Divisional Command, Rape can occur via any of the following ways: spouse or marital rape, intimate partner rape, child sexual abuse or molestation, statutory rape, date rape, serial rape, gang rape, incest rape, mental rape, prison rape, and war rape. “Rape can be prevented if we work out and follow preventive measure, however, if we continue to emphasize masculinity and feminism and avoid the complexity of sexual relations and sexual violence, we will be left with little hope for primary prevention becoming a reality,” the Police Chief said.
Mr. Tayo Akinpelu orientating the audience lectured on the virtues of a Leader, stages of leadership, challenges of leadership, and the gains of selfless service. According to Akinpelu, “leadership entails a deep, affectionate, and responsible connection between any Leader and the Followers.”
Reacting to the event, the State Secretary of the Youth Council, Com. Akolawole Shoremi, commended the youth leadership of Odeda Branch for the efforts. He urged the youths to remain agents of positive changes. The State Public Relations Officer and Organizing Secretary for Ogun Central also graced the event, which had in attendance selected youth stakeholders in Odeda Local Government.
