The Youths of Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State under the aegis of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) ably led by the Coordinator, Com. Adebayo Adeyinka trooped out in their numbers, with strict adherence to COVID regulations, to join the rest of the World to celebrate this year International Youth Day on 12th August, 2020.
The celebration which featured Media Awareness, Walk against Rape and COVID 19 Sensitization Campaign also witnessed distribution of free hand sanitizers and after shave, produced by first batch of Skill acquisition programmes trainee of the Youth Council in the local government.
The first part of the programme saw the duo of NYCN Local Government Secretary, Com. Yinus AbdulFatai and an Exco member, Com. Ekundayo Elizabeth featured on Ilaro Poly 92.1FM public affairs programme, Morning Drive, to sensitise the hardworking, patriotic and resourceful youth of the local government and the general public on the significance of the day. The duo admonished young people to continue engaging themselves in things that will register their names positively on the sand of history. They charged the youths to be indispensable tool for development in every aspect of life to continue portraying the youths of the local government as role models that we are. They further charged the Leaders and Elders alike in our society to have trust in younger generation and women by entrusting them with political and community leadership that will bring the best out of them. Abdul-Fatai finally called for more participation of youths in Politics while advising them to shun hooliganism and thuggery.
The second part of the programme, held at Owode Yewa, was an awareness rally/campaign against social ills among youths. The rally which was led by the Local Government Coordinator, Com. Adebayo Adeyinka had in attendance youths from various Youth Organizations in Yewa South.
The rally had a stop over at the Palace of Olu of Owode Yewa and Owode Yewa Police Division. In his goodwill message to the youth constituency, His Royal highness, Olu of Owode Yewa, Oba M. S Akindele appreciated the youths of the local government for several innovative ideas, peaceful conducts and meaningful contributions to the society. On his part, the Divisional Police Officer, Owode Yewa, appreciated the youth for their various contributions to peaceful coexistence of the society, he charged them to continue to be peaceful and orderly in their conducts and continue to orientate other youth to have interest in development of their communities to reflect the theme of this year's international Youth Day.
Responding to questions and answers with correspondents of OGTV and FAAJI FM who covered the event, the Coordinator charged the youth to always put the interest of the society above personal interest and be a source of blessings to humanity. He charged the youth to continue be of good behaviors and always represents the youth constituency well in their areas of calling. He admonished them to eschew all anti-social behaviors.
The Coordinator thanked the youths of the Local Government for their cooperation with him since his assumption of office and encouraged others who still stand aloof to join the train to jointly achieve betterment for the youth constituency in the local government. On behalf of the entire youth of the Local Government, he commended the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, for listening to the plight of the people by awarding reconstruction of Owode- Ilaro road as he prayed for the speedy completion of the road. He also appreciated Yewa South Local Government Council Transition Committee ably led by Chief Bode Fagbenro, for the support to the Council and the achievement they have recorded so far.
Finally, the Coordinator showered praises on the Ogun State leadership of the Youth Council led by a proud son of Yewa South Local Government, Com Abdul-Jabar Ayelaagbe. He urged him to remain committed towards the development of Ogun Youths.
The NYCN in Yewa South during the Rally distributed hundreds of hand sanitizers and free facemask to the general public while urging them to take precautionary measures against the Coronavirus pandemic and obey all governmental regulations towards eradicating the pandemic from our society.
