international youth day: youth council, ogha discusses youth legislative engagement for dividends of democracy.

The youths of Ogun State on August 12, 2020 celebrated the 2020 International Youth Day with three media sessions on Ogun State Television, Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, and Paramount FM.

The televised media session centered on YOUTH LEGISLATIVE ENGAGEMENT FOR DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY had as Discussants Hon. Shola Adams; the Deputy Chief Whip of Ogun State House of Assembly who also doubles as the Chairman for House Committee on Youth, Sports and Employment Generation, and Com. Abdul-Jabar Ayelaagbe, the State Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter.

Addressing the audience on the state owned Television, Ayelaagbe felicitated with the Youths of Ogun State, Nigeria, and the rest of the world on the commemoration of this year’s event. He discussed the need for a youth legislative engagement to drive dividends of democracy to immediate communities while urging the government at all levels to continuously build youth capacity for global action.

Hon. Shola Adams, reacting to Ayelaagbe’s address, commended the youth leadership of Ogun State for the outstanding representation of the youth constituency. He congratulated the youths on the global event while reiterating the assurance of the State House of Assembly in sustaining and promoting the interest of Ogun Youths via legislative actions.

The State Secretary of the Youth Council, Com. Akolawole Shoremi, who appeared alongside the State Public Relations Officer, Com. Adebare Ariyibi, as Guests on OGBC II FM Radio discussed the youth legislative project as an initiative of the Youth Council. “The youth legislative engagement hopes to educate and sensitize the youths on their rights as constituents, the use of dialogue to drive developmental projects, and use of teamwork to achieve good governance. Community development requires genuine collaboration between the constituents and their representatives,” Shoremi stated.

Ayelaagbe also featured on Paramount 94.5FM where he discussed the factors affecting the youth constituency. “The leadership of the youths is saddled with the efforts on building youth engagement for global action. It is our responsibility as the voice of the youths to continuously ensure active youth representation. We remain committed to our dear youths,” he said.

The local branches of the Council across the State also held various programmes on societal vices, good governance, and community development across all local governments of Ogun State with a special focus on the theme of this year's event - YOUTH ENGAGEMENT FOR GLOBAL ACTION.
