ogun state governor appoints youth council officials into state taskforce team on human trafficking

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, today September 11, 2020, inaugurated the State Taskforce Team on Human Trafficking at the Obas Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Taskforce Team, a nationwide project under the coordination of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), enlists key stakeholders in the crusade against human trafficking to create massive awareness on the dangers of illegal migration and to draw out strategies to curb organized crime among others.

The State Governor ably represented by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako–Oyedele, who inaugurated members of the Taskforce team urged them to remain good ambassadors of Ogun State in the fight against human trafficking.

Addressing the press, the Director General of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah–Donli appreciated Ogun State Government for the support so far geared towards the humanitarian cause. She expressed her hope in recording success stories from the new team as she charged all members to effectively and efficiently make input via their various networks.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Olufunmilayo Efuwape commended the leadership of NAPTIP with assurance of her confidence in the capacity of Ogun indigenes to deliver beyond expectations. “I am confident of my people. We are goal getters and always ready to move. The onus lies on NAPTIP not to let us down whenever the need arises,” she said while responding to the call for action by Okah–Donli.

There were also remarks from the Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration, Mr. Franz Celestin; and Mr. Gbolahan Adeniran, the Attorney–General and Commissioner for Justice who also doubles as the Chairman of the Taskforce.

Among the members inaugurated are: the Ogun State Secretary of the Youth Council, Akolawole Shoremi and the Treasurer, Com. Damilola Sokoya who is also a member of the Federal Government’s Special Public Works Committee for Ogun State.
