endsars protest: ogun youth applauds ogun police for professionalism, appeal for calm.
The leadership of the Youth in Ogun State has applauded Officers and Men of Nigeria Police Force ably led by the State's Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, for conducting themselves professionally in the #EndSars protest while appealing to all youth structures in the State to calm down and give room for the reform of the Police as promised by President Muhammad Buhari.
The commendation was contained in a release signed by the Ogun State Youth Chairman, Com. Abdul-Jabar Ayelaagbe, and made available to newsmen at Ogun Youth House, Youth Council Secretariat, MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, on 14th October, 2020.
The statement reads in part,“I, on behalf of myself, the leadership and entire Youths of Ogun State appreciate the Officers and Men of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police ably led by CP Edward Ajogun for exhibiting maximum degree of professionalism during the #EndSars protest that occurred across the nation.”
The statement specifically commended the Commissioner of Police for his leadership and exemplary traits of 21st century law enforcement agent: “It need be added that the Commissioner of Police deserved special commendation for personally exhibiting traits of a refined officer particularly on his handling of the situation at Ake Palace where he was personally attacked, whereas a negative reaction could have aggravated heated tension. Instead, he displayed a leadership and magnanimous act that even saw many protesters calming one another.”
It would be recalled that the youths across the country trooped out in their numbers to protest incessant brutalities of Nigerian youth by officers and Men of Special Anti Robbery Squad unit of the Force calling for an abrupt end to the unit which was acceded to with immediate disbandment of SARS, with a subsequent directive of Mr. President to reform the entire Police Force.
The Chairman whose previous releases had condemned the brutality of the Men of SARS unit appealed to youth formations across the State to suspend all forms of protest on #EndSars to allow for the reform while assuring them of protection of their rights at all times. “You will recall that in my previous releases, I had expressed my dissatisfaction on the manhandling of our young people by Men of the SARS and call for total reform of the Force, I therefore appeal to all our indefatigable Comrades and entire youth constituency across the State to put all forms of protest on #EndSars on hold to allow for the reform as directed by the President. We shall, God willing, continue to stand up for the protection and rights of all youth. And we will not hesitate to return to the streets when we felt deceived or betrayed by the presidential directive,” the statement concluded.
