“avoid replication of lekki shootings in ogun state” – youth council cautions government, security chiefs.

The youth leadership of Ogun State has urged the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the Security Chiefs to immediately bring to place all safety measures to ensure that the right of Ogun youths to continue protest for good governance is not being infringed on.

The call was made by Ogun State Secretary of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Com. Akolawole Shoremi, today October 21, 2020 at the Morning Flight programme of OGBC 90.5FM where he addressed the response of the Government to the demands on #EndSARS.

Shoremi, responding to the shooting order on the protesters at Lekki Tollgate strongly condemned the directive of the Government on the use of force, by the military, on the peaceful protesters. “This worrisome development at Lekki is another proof to why Nigeria has more of nonchalant Leaders when compared to other countries in the world…

“The continued protest, despite the assurance of the Presidency to look into areas of concern, is a proof of breakdown of trust in the government owing to fruitless assurances in the past. Our expectation for adequate security to prevent hoodlums and sponsored thugs from hijacking our peaceful protest is part of the responsibility of the Police and the Government.

“On the part of the youth leadership of Ogun State, we will continue to harmonize all #EndSARS groups across the state to lead discussions with the Government at our own level, to evaluate the efforts made so far and agree on others left. However, may I make an open appeal that the State Government and Security Chiefs do all in their capacity to protect our youths as a repeat of the Lekki shooting must not be witnessed in Ogun State,” Shoremi said.

Meantime, the Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on Media and Public Communications, Rt. Hon. Remi Hassan who also featured on the programme gave the assurance of the State Government to continue uphold the interests of the Youths. “We assure you that the Government is readily open to deliberate with the youth leaderships as we look forward to a proper representation,” he said.
