The Ijebu North Marathon Race 2020 sponsored by Rt. Hon. Abdel-Majid Adesegun Adekoya came to limelight today December 28th, 2020 with success stories and testimonies from all nooks and crannies of Ijebu North.

The Marathon which was organized by National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) , Ijebu North Branch has 208 participants from all the quarters in the Local Government, with One Hundred and Seventy Seven (177) Male and Thirty One (31) female participants.

The race was preceded by the screening of participants and the distribution of materials to them. After which the participants were enlightened on the important rule of the marathon which is that the marathon race is strictly for people living in Ijebu North area of Ogun State.

The race kick started at Obada Station in Ijebu Igbo to Ago Iwoye garage enroute Oru Ijebu,with check-points/tag-points stationed at Sawmill and Olopomerin so as to give room for the official to be sure that all the athletes passed through the normal route.

Highpoint of the occasion is the unrelenting spirit of the young Odeyemis which was noticed by all and sundry. From the 5-year old Odeyemi Doris to her 9-year old sister, Odeyemi Damaris, the two sisters showed that indeed sports is not by age but by willingness.

However, the little Odeyemi Doris, a primary one pupil was compensated by the sponsor of the program in person on Rt. Hon. Abdel-Majid Adesegun Adekoya who promised the girl a sum of Twenty Thousand naira (#20,000:00) and scholarship as a way of encouraging other young ones who has one talent or the other.

Also the major surprise of the male category is the emergence of Ogunde Adeleye, one of the eight (8) deaf and dumbs that participated in the race as the First Runner up.

At the end of the race 10 winners were selected for each of the categories with Mokiu Ganiu emerging the overall winner of the male category and Banwo Rukayat winning the female category.

In his speech at the prizes presentation program, the representative of Rt. Hon. Adekoya , in person of Mr. Moshood , appreciate the efforts of the organizers and also congratulate the winners. He added that Ijebu North Marathon Race can only be bigger than this as the Honorable is ready to make this a yearly event and that plan is already on ground for a mega football competition among youths.

In their separate message to the youths of the local government, the speakers of the day retrait the need for youths to endure the pains of today's hard work so that they can enjoy the fruits it brings tomorrow.

Present at the occasion are representatives of Nigeria Police Force, Ministry of Youth and Sports and all NYCN affiliated organizations.

It is our prayer that the Almighty God will continue to be with our Honorable, and also give him the grace and enablement to do more for the youths.
