OGUN YOUTH AWARD DISCLAIMER: “DON’T PEDDLE DISUNITY INTO THE YOUTH CONSTITUENCY” – YOUTH COUNCIL WARNS MISCHIEVOUS POLITICIANS
The leadership of youth of Ogun State has cautioned political peddlers and mischievous persons to desist from sowing seeds of discord among the youths of Ogun State.
In a reaction to a Disclaimer Notice released on Monday February 8, 2021 by a business enterprise founded by a Politician, to discredit the ongoing award voting, the State Secretary of the Youth Council, Com. Akolawole Shoremi, warned disgruntled elements who are not pleased with the peaceful conduct of youth affairs in Ogun State to be wary of their political venture as there is no fertile ground for disunity among the true sons and daughters of Ogun State.
As buttressed by Shoremi, the Ogun State Youth Awards has been an annual rite of Ogun State Youth Council for almost two decades promoting and celebrating efforts of youths, in line with the Government of Nigerian Federation mandate for the Youth Council as the only representative and authoritative voice of the youths, and as contained in the National Youth Policy.
“This current leadership of youth in Ogun State is notable for several youth interventions since the assumption of office. And in line with the commendable efforts of previous leaderships, we’ve rebranded the Ogun State Youth Awards which has been in existence for almost two decades.
“Ogun State Youth Award is an event always been held by Ogun State Youth Council under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Although as the first award ceremony being organized by this current leadership, we are aware of the displeasure of few political interests that have made endeavors to seek collaboration with us to enable them sustain their business ventures.
“However, the Youth Council, as the coordinating body for all youth organizations, remains the only authorized entity to decide and issue award commendations on behalf of the youths of Ogun State, not a business, social or political group. While we will not wish to dignify any business group by joining issues on the conduct of youth affairs in Ogun State, it is important we inform the public to be wary of unfounded allegations and fraudulent intentions. Hence, we caution our youths against being used as a tool in the hands of political mongers who do not mean well for the youth constituency.
“May I further use this opportunity to congratulate all nominees of the ongoing 2020 award celebration in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of our dear State. I also commend the wonderful youths of Ogun State, home and abroad, for the massive turnout of over one hundred thousand votes already recorded. The Ogun State Youth Awards will continue to celebrate our youths regardless of tribal, political, or business affiliation,” Shoremi said.
The award voting will end today February 8, 2021, at 11:59pm and winners will be announced at the forthcoming event.
