youth council demands inclusion of youth empowerment fund, others in bill for public/private partnership

The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter, has presented a memorandum, on the proposed establishment of a law on public/private partnerships, to the Chairman of House Committee on Commerce, Industries, and Investments, Ogun State House of Assembly.

The Bill with number H. B. 28/OG/2019 when passed into law will improve the welfare of the people by ensuring rapid infrastructural and economic development in Ogun state. To enable a robust contribution via public input, Stakeholders were invited to a public hearing. 

Addressing the leadership of the Assembly and other Stakeholders, the Youth Council represented by the State Secretary, Akolawole Shoremi, commended the House Committee on the bill. Shoremi reminded the Committee on the need to observe international best practices by including a Youth Representative as a member of the Governing Board for the proposed Office of the Public Private Partnerships.
 
The Council, through the State Secretary, also recommended the inclusion of an Article on ‘Youth Empowerment Fund’ where a certain percentage of the Funds of the Office can be dedicated to support and promote annual scholarships and mentorship programs for the Youth.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, in his response, appreciated the Council while assuring the leadership of due consideration of the memorandum. The bill, according to the Speaker may be passed into law before the year end.
