The leadership of the youths in Ogun state has written to a nationalist, Chief Olusegun Osoba, over a statement credited to the Commissioner in charge of youth affairs in Ogun state.

In a letter titled COMMISSIONER OF YOUTH’S STATEMENT: APOLOGY, APPEAL FOR DISPLAY OF FATHERHOOD, AND CONTINUED TUTELAGE OF OGUN YOUTH, and signed by the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Com. Abdul-Jabar Ayelaagbe, and the State Secretary, Com. Akolawole Shoremi, the youths appealed to Osoba in a father-child tradition to display an act of fatherhood and forgive the Commissioner as he would have done to a son.

The letter, which reads in part says, “It is the wisdom of you Elders that acknowledged the youth age as a period of irrepressible circumstances where every child that desires to grow cannot escape the web of blunders; hence, the room given to us to err and the continuous opportunity to learn from the forgiving spirit of you, our Fathers.

“As a true reflection of our culture and heritage, it is unsavory for us as children to dare look into the eyes of our fathers particularly those of you whose bounds of fatherhood transcends to national clime…

“We have the directive of the entire youth of Ogun state to appeal your magnanimity to forgive the Commissioner and to enable us be better oriented for political growth.”

Similarly, another letter of apology appealing for a room for improvement was also sent to the Governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, where the Council tendered an unreserved apology to His Excellency on the implications of the statement to the government. The youth leadership further appealed for a kind consideration, upon being reprimanded, to protect the person of Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde and his office.
